Well over a 1000 images were submitted for
consideration for this book. But a number of pictures
could not be found. Top of the list was the celebrated
oil of Queen Victoria at Kingstown Harbour, 1900. It
was last sold at Adam's in Dublin in 1992 but it could
not be traced further. Nor did a single picture of the
gardens at Altamont, Co. Carlow, which Williams
exhibited in 1892, turn up. Somewhere there may be
studies of fish and birds, of plants, perhaps even of
butterflies, work on porcelain, and studies of oils or
watercolours of street scenes from the provinces as well
as Dublin. The press referred to the artist painting the
last of the bee-hive huts on Achill, but none came to
light.

There is reason to believe that there may be other
diaries and catalogues, and just possibly the records of
Williams & Son survive somewhere.

The author would be most interested to hear of any
such or unusual material.

Watercolour signed and inscribed:
'Old Wormwood Gate - A vanished
Dublin Slum.' The artist's paintings
of old Dublin formed a small but
important part of his work.
